Commercial Driver Cell Phone Use Questionnaire
The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the research arm of the trucking industry, is working with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to examine how communication devices (cell phones/smart phones) are used by commercial drivers while driving a commercial motor vehicle.
Due to the sensitivity of this research, there will be NO attribution of individual responses nor will any raw survey data be released.
Your completion of the survey is critical to this research effort. Again, all responses will be kept strictly confidential and will only be reported in aggregate form.
The communication devices described in this survey include:
-
cell phones; and
-
smart phones.
As background and for the purposes of this questionnaire, a cell phone/smart phone is defined as a portable telephone that uses wireless technology to send and receive phone signals. In addition to voice services, cell phones/smart phones may include any combination of the following features: text messaging, e-mail, internet, still or video camera, MP3 player, video player, television, radio and/or calendar.
Please note: A personal digital assistant (PDA) is defined as a handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. PDA's do not include telephone functionality although they may have WIFI capabilities. Since the enhanced functionalities of smart phones and PDAs are identical except for telephone capabilities, PDA's are assumed to be in the category of smart phones and will not be independently referenced. |
